(© Joseph Marzullo/WENN) | Cause Célèbre, a new theater company that will present monthly programs with proceeds going to charity, will kick off at 6:30pm on Sunday, December 9 at the Players Club with a benefit for the National Meningitis Society. The company is created by Susan Charlotte, the founding artistic director of the popular Food for Thought series.
The initial program will feature Joan Copeland in a scene from Death of a Salesman, written by her late brother, Arthur Miller; Bob Dishy and Judy Graubart in Mel Brook's sketch Of Fathers and Sons; Marian Seldes in a reading of Tennessee Williams' Steps Must Be Gentle, a new play by Charlotte, and music by cabaret favorite KT Sullivan. The evening will conclude with a Q&A with the performers, members of the National Meningitis Society, and Paralympic athlete Nick Springer, who contracted Meningococcal Meningitis at the age of 14, as well as a reception.
Celebrities who have committed to appear in future programs include Danny Aiello, Christine Ebersole, Rue McLanahan, Mercedes Ruehl, Marlo Thomas, and Elizabeth Wilson.
Tickets are $100, with additional donations welcome. For more information, call 212-362-2560 or 646-366-9340.
