 | Meryl Streep in Mamma Mia!
(© Universal Pictures) | Universal Pictures' film version of the hit Broadway musical Mamma Mia! will get its world premiere in London on Monday, June 30, with a widespread UK release set for July 4 and a U.S. release on July 18.
The film, which uses the hit music of the Swedish supergroup ABBA, is directed by Phyllida Lloyd, who also helmed the stage version, and stars Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgård, Christine Baranski, Julie Walters, Amanda Seyfried, and Dominic Cooper. The plot concerns a young girl on a Greek island who's about to get married, and invites the three men she thinks might be her father, much to her mother's horror.
Decca Broadway will release the film's soundtrack on Tuesday, July 8, featuring 17 songs. Streep will solo on "The Winner Takes It All," and perform on such hit tunes as "Dancing Queen," "Our Last Summer," "SOS," and "When All Is Said and Done." The soundtrack will also features vocals by Philip Michael, Ashley Lilley, and Rachel McDowall, who play friends of Seyfried's Sophie.
