Olivier Award winner Alex Jennings will join Tony Award winner Kristin Chenoweth and Toby Spence, who will play Cunegonde and Candide, in the English National Opera's production of Candide, to begin a 23-performance run on June 13. The production will be directed by Robert Carsen and conducted by Rumon Gamba. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.

The show is based on the novella by Voltaire. It features music by Leonard Bernstein, with lyrics by Richard Wilbur, Stephen Sondheim, John Latouche, Lillian Hellman, Dorothy Parker, and Bernstein. The original adaptation by Hugh Wheeler has been re-adapted by Carstn and Ian Burton.

The production will feature choreography by Rob Ashford, sets by Michael Levine, costumes by Buki Shiff, lighting by Carsen and Peter Van Praet. It has previously been seen at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris and La Scala in Milan.

Jennings, who will play Doctor Pangloss and Voltaire, is currently on stage in the National Theatre's production of Present Laughter. His many other stage credits include My Fair Lady, The Alchemist, Stuff Happens, and A Midsummer Night's Dream, in which he appeared on Broadway.
