The North Shore Music Theatre (NSMT) has added Disney's High School Musical 2 to its 2008 season, December 18-January 11. NSMT's musical adaptation of A Christmas Carol will be taking a year off this season, but it will return in 2009 for its 20th Anniversary production.
Based on the smash hit Disney Channel musical, High School Musical 2 follows Troy, Gabriella, Sharpay, Ryan and their friends from East High during a summer of fun, sun and song at a fabulous country club. This production will feature several young performers from the local community.
Previously announced shows this season include the New England regional premiere of The Producers, May 13-June 1; the Tony Award winning musicals Contact, June 10-29, and Bye Bye Birdie, July 15-August 3; as well as The 25th Annual Putman County Spelling Bee, August 12-31, Showboat, September 23-October 12, and 42nd Street, October 28-November 16.
In addition, executive producer Barry Ivan, will introduce a new "Screen to Stage" program that provides a unique look at popular Broadway musicals whose origins are based in some of the silver screen's most beloved films. This will include a semi-staged concert version production of The Wiz, inspired by the classic 1939 Academy Award winning film The Wizard of Oz, September 5, 6 and 7.
