John Lithgow will present his new one-man show Stories by Heart at Lincoln Center's Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater, April 20-June 2, with an opening date of May 12. Jack O'Brien will direct the performance, which will play Sunday and Monday nights during the run of Paul Rudnick's The New Century.
The solo show is a touching and funny meditation on the art and essence of storytelling. Invoking memories of his grandmother and father before him, Lithgow traces his own history as an actor and storyteller, a history spanning three generations.
Lithgow won Tony Awards for The Sweet Smell of Success and The Changing Room. He was also Tony-nominated for his performances in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, M. Butterfly, and Requiem for a Heavyweight. Lithgow is well known for his starring role in the TV series Third Rock from the Sun, for which he received a Golden Globe, two SAG awards, and The American Comedy Award.
O'Brien's many Broadway credits include The Coast of Utopia, Hairspray, and Henry IV, all of which earned him Tony Awards as Best Director, along with Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Imaginary Friends, The Full Monty, and The Little Foxes, among others.
