A new version of Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe's 1947 musical Brigadoon, which will be directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Rob Ashford and feature a revised book by Tony winner John Guare, will play Boston's Colonial Theatre, October 14-November 9, with a Broadway bow expected in Spring 2009. No New York theater or casting have been announced.
The creative team will include Christopher Oram (sets and costumes), Paule Constable (lighting), and Brian Ronan (sound).
The show is the story of two disillusioned Americans on vacation in Scotland who wander into a village that comes alive every 100 years but for only one day. The score includes "Almost Like Being in Love," "There But for You Go I," "Come to Me, Bend to Me," and "Heather on the Hill."
The show's 1947 production received the Tony Award for Agnes DeMille's choreography. There have been numerous Broadway revivals, and a popular 1954 MGM film version starring Gene Kelly, Van Johnson, and Cyd Charisse.
Ashford won the Tony for his choreography of Thoroughly Modern Millie and is currently represented on Broadway by Curtains and Cry-Baby. He recently directed the Donmar Warehouse's production of Parade.
Guare won the Tony for the book to the musical Two Gentlemen of Verona and received Tony nominations for his plays The House of Blue Leaves, Six Degrees of Separation, and Four Baboons Adoring the Sun, as well as the book for the musical Sweet Smell of Success.
