Canadian musician Kyle Riabko and ensemble member Alexandra Socha will replace Jonathan Groff and Lea Michele as Melchior and Wendla in the Broadway cast of Spring Awakening. Socha begins on May 20, while Riabko assumes his role on May 23..
Based on the 1891 play by Frank Wedekind, the show won eight 2007 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The production features direction by Michael Mayer, choreography by Bill T. Jones, book and lyrics by Steven Sater, and a score by Duncan Sheik.
The company also features Blake Bashoff (Moritz), Skylar Astin (Georg), Lilli Cooper (Martha), Blake Daniel (Ernst), Brian Charles Johnson (Otto), Emma Hunton (Ilse), Phoebe Strole (Anna), Matt Doyle (Hanschen), Remy Zaken (Thea), Christine Estabrook (Adult Women), Glenn Fleshler (Adult Men), Gerard Canonico, Alice Lee, Eryn Murman, and Matt Shingledecker.
Groff will next be seen this summer in the Shakespeare in the Park production of Hair. Michele will reprise her cabaret act at Feinstein's at the Loews' Regency and then co-star in the Hollwyood Bowl's concert version of Les Miserables.
