The winners of Boston's 2008 Elliot Norton Awards, honoring the best in area theater, were announced this evening at a ceremony at Harvard's Sanders Theatre. Actress Andrea Martin was guest of honor.
My Fair Lady won prizes for both Best Visiting Production and actress Lisa O'Hare. Other notable acting winners include solo performer Nilaja Sun for No Child and actor Max Wright for No Man's Land.
The award for Outstanding Production by a Large Company went to Huntington's Present Laughter. New Repertory Theatre's The Clean House won for Outstanding Production by a Midsize Company. The prize for Outstanding Production by a Fringe Company went to The Kentucky Cycle, co-produced by Zeitgeist Stage and Way Theatre Artists. A.R.T.'s A Marvelous Party: The Noel Coward Celebration won for Outstanding Musical Production.
Director Nicholas Martin, who is finishing up his tenure as artistic director of the Huntington Theatre Company and taking over as artistic director of The Williamstown Theatre Festival, received the Norton Prize for Sustained Excellence.
This year's awards committee includes Terry Byrne, Carolyn Clay, Iris Fanger, Louise Kennedy, Joyce Kulhawik, Sandy MacDonald, Robert Nesti, Ed Siegel, and Caldwell Titcomb.
