Abrons Arts Center presents Breaking Lines Dance Festival.

Special Opening Night Performance - Tickets $50.00
Thursday, April 22nd, @ 7:30

Honoring Paradigm, the trio of distinguished dancers -
Carmen DeLavallade, Gus Solomon jr., and Dudley Williams

Other distinguished performers include members of the New York City Ballet, American Ballet theater, renowned flamenco artist Nelida Tirado and a special performance by former Nikolais Dance Theater members who will be performing Noumenon Which was created and premiered in 1953 at the Harry De Jur Playhouse at Henry Street Settlement.

Post Performance Reception with the artists!

Pre-Performance reception for the opening of the Tom Caravaglia Photo Exhibit 6:00pm Culpepper Gallery. The special opening night performance opens in concurrence with a dance photo exhibition by Tom Caravaglia. Photos being exhibited were taken by Caravaglia of the Nikolais Dance Theater in the Harry De Jur Playhouse.

Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company - Mayne Menshn (My People)
An interactive family celebration introducing a new generation to traditional Jewish music and dance forms, Mayne Mentshn (My People), a dance which celebrates Jewish gesture, expression, ritual, traditions and values.

Come Dance With Us
Come view this documentary of "When Spirits Danced Mambo." The 90-minute documentary shot in Cuba provides a comprehensive understanding of rich sacred traditions of the varied African practices that were taken to Cuba. Immediately following the documentary, Come Dance With Us to the swinging band of Jose Mangual, Jr. The Abrons Arts Center Ensemble and other will be there to take you to the dance floor.

Darrah Carr Dance
Darrah Carr Dance brings to the stage a sensational and unique blend of traditional Irish step and modern dance. Add traditional and contemporary Irish music and you have a rousing new voice among artists that fuse movement styles.

Kun-Yang Lin
Kun-Yang Lin's work is an on going exploration in the power of movements to inform our spiritual, emotional, psychological and physical states of human beings and to search for a state of balance.

Saturday, May 1 at 8pm
Sunday, May 2 at 3pm

New Voices

An evening of dance by some of the most promising choreographers who are emerging on the dance scene by expressing their unique cultural experiences. The pieces being presented are "works in progress". The choreographers will discuss their work with the audience immediately following the performance, soliciting feedback to incorporate into further development of their work.
