Encompass New Opera Theatre hosts a gala celebration in honor of the acclaimed Broadway lyricist Sheldon Harnick on the occasion of his 80th birthday. Featured are performers from current and previous Harnick shows, including Barbara Cook (the original production of She Loves Me), Boyd Gaines (the revival of She Loves Me), and Alfred Molina and Randy Graff (the current Broadway production of Fiddler on the Roof). Also scheduled to appear are Alan Alda, Glenn Close, Marlo Thomas, Charlotte Rae, and KT Sullivan.
Mr. Harnick, a legend for his collaborations with Jerry Bock, which produced Fiddler On the Roof, Fiorello!, She Loves Me, The Rothschilds and other hits, has also written libretti for operas and translated the texts of Carmen, The Merry Widow (for the Beverly Sills production at the New York City Opera), and Igor Stravinsky's A Soldier's Tale. In addition, he has long served with Encompass New Opera Theatre as Co-Chairman of its Advisory Board.
