The Christmas Revels is a celebration of the Winter Solstice. The Washington Revels' 23rd annual holiday production transports us northward to share the sparkling music, epic folklore and spirited dancing of Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and Karelia.
Favorite stories, like "The Three Billy Goats Gruff," will enchant children and adults alike. Nordic folk traditions, such as the beautiful Sankta Lucia Procession from Sweden, are sure to delight children and adults of all ages. Ancient oral folk tales from the "Kalevala," the Finnish national epic, provide the theme for this year's Christmas Revels, acted out with giant puppets and masks.
Christmas Revels performances highlight unique tradition-bearers from cultures across the globe. This year, the Revels chorus and children will be joined by acclaimed musicians and dancers whose artistry evokes the spirit of the Nordic lands.
