Synopsis

The Sunday Feb 12th performance has been cancelled due to the snow and re-scheduled for Wednesday, Feb 15th at 7:30pm with a pre-event party at 6:30pm. All Sunday tickets shall be honored for Wednesday. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the door.

Some of New York City's brightest budding stars are showcased in Rising Stars, LaGuardia Arts High School's annual talent show sponsored by the Parents Association.

Rising Stars 2006 - To a Different Drummer marks the Parents Association's 21st year presenting the showcase, which spotlights the extraordinary talent of students in the school's Art, Dance, Drama, Music and Technical Theatre Studios, from Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts - known the world over as the inspiration for the movie, Fame.

The show features 134 students representing 33 acts, all designed to celebrate the school's diverse student body and its rich tradition of graduating some of the biggest talent in the worlds of art, music, dance and drama. Performances will range from a contortionist and 12 member Hip-Hop troupe, to an original song and 12-piece string accompaniment and traditional Korean drumming, with a solo from Carmen, step dancing, a monologue, rock bands and other dance forms in the line-up.

Several of the acts represent the predominant war and anti-war themes that were repeatedly expressed through the audition performances across all artistic disciplines. Lee Lobenhofer directs, with Robert Apostle and John Hamilton, both from LaGuardia's Vocal Studio, and Gary Fogel from the Instrumental Studio, as teacher-consultants. Ted Williams, an alumnus of LaGuardia Arts who has worked extensively in TV, films and on Broadway, is providing choreographic and rehearsal coaching.

NOTE: Pre-Show Gala times are one hour before curtain and are free. There are live performances, an art exhibit, interactive activities and more.
