Synopsis

Making its American premiere, Cornelius Schnauber's Wagner and Mendelssohn, Music and Women is a fictionalized dramatization of Richard Wagner's last two hours on Earth. The two-act play has been translated from the original German by Tom Schnauber.

During his final hours, Wagner, the most influential composer of the 19th century, meets the ghost of composer Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, finds out about the future, defends under pain and dramatic tension his positive and negative opinions about Mendelssohn and the Jews, and struggles with his own relationship with women, politics and music.

Wagner and Medelssohn is presented as part of the Days of Dresden: A Beacon of European Culture and History series.
