Synopsis
The 15th Annual Kennedy Center Gala presents
Harry Connick, Jr. and His Big Band.
It is only fitting that this year's gala, held on the anniversary of jazz legend Duke Ellington's birth, features Harry Connick, Jr. in an evening of jazz and swing. Like Ellington, Connick is a pianist, a composer and a big-band leader, and he has also made his mark as a vocalist, a film and television actor, and a star of the Broadway stage. A consummate artist, Connick has won three Grammy awards, provided the music for the film When Harry Met Sally and the Tony-nominated original score for the musical Thou Shalt Not, acted in such films as Hope Floats and Independence Day, received an Emmy nomination for his role as Dr. Leo Markus on Will and Grace, and become the toast of Broadway for his performance in the 2006 revival of The Pajama Game.
The black-tie evening begins with a reception on the River Terrace at 5 p.m. followed by an elegant dinner on the Roof Terrace level at 6 p.m. The Gala performance begins at 8:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall. The evening concludes with 'Til Midnight, a cocktails and dancing party, in the Roof Terrace Restaurant with the music of Big Ray and the Kool Kats.
