Heralded as one of Washington's favorite summertime traditions, the Shakespeare Theatre Company Free For All presents
Love's Labor's Lost. Rich with rhymed verse, wordplay and witty banter, the play begins with the King of Navarre and three other men renouncing the world's pleasures -- especially women -- for a life of academia. But when the Princess of France and her three ladies arrive, the men find themselves helplessly falling in love. The production sets Shakespeare's tale in India during the 1960s, with the King of Navarre a Maharishi-like character who is visited by an American rock band.
Originally directed by Artistic Director Michael Kahn, the production has been re-staged by Shakespeare Theatre Company Resident Assistant Director Stephen Fried and features Amir Arison, Tonya Beckman Ross, Caroline Bootle, Christian Conn, Colleen Delany, Sabrina LeBeauf, Michael Milligan, Mauricio Salgado and Hank Stratton.
The cast also features Nick Choksi, Rex Daugherty, Leo Erikson, Drew Eshelman, Michael Feldsher, Wynn Harmon, Rock Kohli, Stephen McWilliams, Anthony Newfield, James Rana, Matthew Stucky, John Tillotson and Nitya Vidyasagar.
The Free For All is part of the citywide Shakespeare In Washington celebration.
