At the conclusion of its 2007-2008 season, St. Ann's presents Grzegorz Jarzyna's sweeping, cinematic version of Macbeth -- outdoors, across the street from St. Ann's in the Tobacco Warehouse on the Brooklyn Waterfront.
Macbeth is Jarzyna's latest effort to boldly reinvent the classics and adapt the texts for a younger generation. The production takes multi-media theater to the limit, with contemporary images of modern, ritualistic warfare, technology and intrigue. This production is like a film, with a sprawling, multi-tiered, three-chambered set and a passionate underscore of original composition, pop songs, sound effects and spoken text.
In 2004, St. Ann's Warehouse presented Jarzyna's version of George F. Walker's Risk Everything, which he infused with loud rock & roll, sexiness, and energy. The drama literally spilled out onto the streets of DUMBO.
"the best international theater New York still needs to see."
