The Milk Can Theatre Company opens its exciting fifth season with the world premier of By Oscar Micheaux, a stirring new play by Kleban Award-winning playwright Cheryl L. Davis. This is the (mostly) true story of Oscar Micheaux, one of the nations first African-American filmmakers. Against all odds, Micheaux became a successful playwright, novelist and director of over 40 films in segregated, early 20th century America. Through a compelling mixture of historical film clips, imagined scenes, and recreated moments, By Oscar Micheaux tells the story of a man whose legacy has been all but lost to the forces of history.
