Synopsis

The Andrew Sterman Group is coming to Joe's Pub to celebrate the release of The Path To Peace, a CD with music inspired by the inner journey of Mahatma Gandhi. Sterman's music is perfect for the task, combining warmth of heart, powerful written grooves and his unique tenor saxophone voice. Sterman's saxophone playing, using a yogic flow of breath through the horn, creates a human storytelling as fresh as it is deep. This is music as a healing force, following Gandhi's extraordinary life in a suite of eight pieces. In Sterman's music, traces of classic American song, contemporary composition, free jazz, world music and many other influences come together to create a unique and deeply moving whole. performed with a huge variety of major artists from Frank Sinatra, Philip Glass, Freddie Hubbard, Dizzy Gillespie, Sarah Vaughan, Aretha Franklin, and of course is well known for his work in the Philip Glass Ensemble.
