It's the age-old set up -- the young, beautiful ingénue has hit hard times and she just can't pay the rent -- "oh my." The evil, lecherous landlord is demanding his payment in one form or another, otherwise she's out in the cold -- "boo...hiss." The kindly, wise old woman offers said ingénue worldly advice and wisdom -- "oooh." Enter the dashingly handsome, kind and generous hero (please hold... said hero needs to save a cat from a burning tree...ok, we're back) who saves the day - "yea!" But wait, there's more...lots more.
You see this play takes that basic plot and does it five times in five different musical styles with just four actors. That's right, it's five mini-musicals in one including: a Rodgers and Hammerstein spin off titled "Corn," a Stephen Sondheim spoof called "A Little Complex," a Jerry Herman piece named "Dear Abby," an Andrew Lloyd Webber tribute penned "Aspects of Junita," and of course a Kander and Ebb nod called "Speakeasy."
