Synopsis

Faster was inspired by bestselling author James Gleick's Faster: The Acceleration of Just About Everything. The play is comprised of three interweaving narratives, each focused on the same woman (portrayed by three different actresses) at different moments in her life. At present, the woman is on a treadmill, determined to get her life on track after a year of total, self-enforced isolation. By the end, she is sprinting towards ecstasy in an attempt to escape her own regimentation and mortality.

Time theory is interwoven throughout the play in the form of a tour of the Directorate of Time, an agency of the United States military responsible for the world's number one clock. The Directorate serves a metaphor for the woman's battle against a precise and ticking clock in an effort to make a lasting mark with her life, specifically to forge a meaningful connection with another human being.

Directed by Rachel Chavkin. Cast includes Kristen Sieh, who was last seen Off-Broadway in Deborah Brevoort's The Women of Lockerbie with Judith Ivey, Ryan West who was last seen in Richard Foreman's Panic (or How to be Happy), Jessica Almasy, Brian Hastert, and Tiffany May.
