Players Theatre

New York, NY 10012

capacity: 248
Built in 1907 and converted to a theatre in the mid 40's, The Players Theatre has been a jewel in the midst of beautiful Greenwich Village, serving as a magnet for performing artists and their audiences.

The Players Theatre, which has been home to such long run productions as Ruthless! and An Evening with Quentin Crisp, was purchased recently by musician Michael Sgouros and has been fully renovated. In addition to the 248 seat theatre, the facility includes the Players Loft, a 50 seat black box theatre, 4 rehearsal studios and an office suite for theatre companies.

The Players Theatre is the site of a monthly Sunday morning family music series called Percussion People featuring interactive activities for all ages. In addition, the theatre is home to That's Chamber Music?!!!, a monthly chamber music series for new music.

The Players Theatre is also home to the famous Café Wha? which has been a Greenwich Village mainstay since the 1960s. One of the Village's original and most famous rock clubs, it was the regular hang out for Allen Ginsburg, Abbie Hoffman and Bob Dylan. Jimi Hendrix, Bruce Springsteen, Kool and the Gang, Bill Cosby and Richard Pryor are some of the performers who began their careers at Café Wha? Mary Travers was a waitress at the club before joining Peter Yarrow and Paul Stookey in the now internationally renowned folk group, Peter Paul and Mary.

The club continues this tradition today with the famous Café Wha? Band.
